Syracuse football became officially bowl-eligible with a 38-31 overtime win over Virginia Tech last weekend. The Orange improved to 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the ACC, ensuring a .500-or-better finish and locking up a postseason showdown for the third consecutive year. Most observers expect the Orange to end up at the Pinstripe Bowl, but ESPN’s Mark Schlabach projects Syracuse to play in the more prestigious Gator Bowl against LSU.
Kyle McCord is eyeing a No. 1 spot on three different Syracuse football records lists entering final stretch of season. McCord completed 24-of-35 pass attempts for 280 yards and two touchdowns in the win over Virginia Tech, putting him fifth on touchdown passes, third on season completions and third on season yards. One more touchdown will put him in a four-way tie for second place (22), but he has a ways to go before he knocks off Ryan Nassib in the No. 1 spot (26).
Boston College is 4-4 overall and just 1-3 against ACC foes, making them a solid underdog in the showdown. The Eagles have lost three in a row to ACC opponents, and are coming off a 31-27 loss to No. 25 Louisville.
